Our Theatre Philosophy

The mission at CAST is "experiential theatre". Each actor, director, designer and staff member should explore opportunites to expand the "set". As a Studio Theatre, CAST tailors each performance and reading from the first day to closing night. Directors are expected to be present and note where improvements can be achieved throughout the duration of the performance.

CAST has a reputation for quality work. Our mission isn't to meet our patron's expectations, but to exceed them. This is reflected in our rehearsal process. CAST is not an Equity House with 4 weeks of rehearsal at 40 hours a week.  That same amount of rehearsal time, however, can be spread over a longer time period and is achieved with advanced planning and preparation. Each director and actor should customize their calendars accordingly and foster the CAST philosophy that no show be under rehearsed. An ideal schedule for a production will be:

• Auditions & Casting accomplished 14-16 weeks out
• First Read Through 12 weeks out
• Table Work in weeks to follow
• Actors on their feet at 8 weeks out
• Actors off book at 4 weeks out
• Performances show ready 1 week prior to Opening

• Call times are 90 minutes prior to curtain. 
• No actor should be seen by any patron prior to curtain.
• Actors and Directors are required to attend a post show "Talk Back" immediately after curtain call if one is scheduled.
